I feel like no one really prepares you for menopause.

You hear about hot flushes… maybe mood swings…but no one talks about the random stuff.

The things that make you stop and think:  “What is going on with my body?”

I’ve had so many conversations with women lately, and the same thing keeps coming up symptoms that feel completely unrelated… but actually aren’t.

The weird symptoms no one talks about

One of the ones I heard recently was:  “It feels like I’ve got water stuck in my ear.”

And I thought… surely not?  But it turns out, it can be linked to menopause.

Hormonal changes can affect fluid balance and the inner ear, which can cause:

  • that blocked or full feeling

  • dizziness

  • even ringing in the ears

And that’s just one of many.  Here are some others I keep hearing about:

Tingling, crawling or “electric” skin

Some women describe it as pins and needles…others say it feels like bugs crawling on their skin.

It’s linked to how hormones affect your nervous system — but it can feel so random when it happens.

 Brain fog

Forgetting what you were saying mid-sentence.  Walking into a room and having no idea why.  Struggling to find words you’ve used your whole life.  This one comes up a lot.

Heart palpitations

That sudden racing or pounding heart feeling — even when you’re resting.  It can feel scary, but for many women it’s tied to hormonal fluctuations.

Burning mouth or dry mouth

A strange one — but very real.  Dryness, tingling, or even a burning sensation on the tongue or lips.

 Sudden chills

Everyone talks about overheating… but some women experience the opposite too — random cold chills out of nowhere.

Dizziness or feeling off-balance

Again, this can link back to hormones affecting the inner ear and circulation.

Skin that suddenly reacts to everything

This is the one I hear the most.  Women who have used the same products for years suddenly find:

  • everything stings

  • their skin feels dry no matter what they use

  • nothing seems to work anymore

From my perspective…

Running Bubble Soap Co., I talk to women about their skin every single week.

And I can tell you — this comes up all the time.

Women aren’t imagining it.  Their skin has changed.

During menopause:
  • your skin produces less oil

  • it loses moisture more easily

  • your barrier becomes weaker

So the products that used to work… just don’t anymore.

What actually helps (keeping it simple)

The biggest shift I see helping women is this:

doing less — but doing it better

Menopausal skin doesn’t need:

  • harsh cleansers

  • complicated routines

  • layers of active ingredients

It needs support.

Gentle cleansing

No tight, stripped feeling after washing.

Deep nourishment

Not just hydration — your skin needs fats and oils it recognises.

This is where I love tallow.

It’s so similar to our skin’s natural oils, which means it absorbs beautifully and actually supports the skin — rather than just sitting on top.

Barrier support

When your barrier is strong:

  • dryness improves

  • sensitivity calms down

  • your skin starts to feel like itself again

Ingredients like:

  • grass-fed tallow

  • raw honey

  • beeswax

can make such a difference here.

Keep it simple

You don’t need a 10-step routine.

A gentle cleanse + a nourishing moisturiser is often more than enough.

It’s not just your skin

Something I’ve really noticed is that it’s not just about dry skin.

Women are dealing with:

  • bloating

  • inflammation

  • hormonal shifts

  • dryness in other areas

And it can feel overwhelming trying to figure out what helps and what doesn’t.

That’s why I’m such a big believer in low-tox, simple products — supporting your body, not overloading it.

Final thoughts

If you’re going through this and thinking  “Why is everything changing?”

You’re not alone.  Your body is shifting — and it just needs a different kind of support now.

Simple. Gentle. Nourishing.

Also — a little behind the scenes from me…  I’m currently working on a natural, low-tox lube to support dryness during menopause. It’s still a work in progress, but something I’m really passionate about creating properly — gentle, effective, and actually supportive.  I can’t wait to share more when it’s ready.
